The other night I had a dream, a very vivid dream.
I woke up from the dream at 5am and began to write down what I dreamed about.
It was a story.
And it flowed out of me for hours and I didn't feel tired. That is the best feeling in the world! When creativity spills out like that.
But, writing isn't always like that.
Most days it is sticking to my outline and plot plans and knowing I need to write two or three thousand words.

It feels more like chipping away at a job, little by little. Jobs For Writers
But there is beauty in that too. It's called work!
There isn't anything wrong with hard work and in fact, I know that hard work is the only way good things happen in this world.
Writing is fun, it is creative, but it is also work. Editing, refining, talking with others about your writings. Writing is vulnerable.
If you are writing a novel, you are working. If you didn't know that already.
Luckily, I have an amazing partner to share my work with. He is also a writer. This is usually a good thing :)

But in the end, it is just me and my computer. My is mind constantly receiving images that are translated onto paper for other people to read.
Writing when you don't want to is what makes someone a real writer.
As Anne Lamott would say (and I am not even paraphrasing, I'm just guessing here),
is that everyone wants to know how to get published, but few want to learn how to actually write.
That is when the passion truly shines, when you really just want to write. Because you are working towards a goal. Or because it is just plain fun and the story is rolling out of you like those gum-balls out of the machine at Walmart. (not that I shop there)
Don't diminish those days, they are the key to success:)
